Eva Annetta Cleland, 90, of Sweet Home died April 26, 2008.
She was born in Newell, S.D., to John and Tjodie (Duit) Ubben.
Not long after she was born her family moved to Presho, S.D., where she went to elementary school and graduated from high school. After graduating from high school she went to Aberdeen, S.D., where she received her teaching degree.
She then moved to Oacoma, S.D., to take a teaching position and while there met her husband, Clifford Cleland.
They had two sons, John and Roger. The Clelands continued to live in Oacoma until 1943 when they moved to Willow Brook, Calif., eventually buying a home in Long Beach, Calif.
Mr. Cleland died in 1969 and Mrs. Cleland continued to live in Long Beach until 1996 when she moved to Sweet Home to be near family.
She enjoyed doing needle-point, counted cross-stitch, Brazilian embroidery, regular embroidery and crocheting. She made afghans through the years for gifts. She was active in the church and sang in the choir for many years.
Mrs. Cleland is survived by her sons, John Cleland and Roger Cleland; two brothers. John Ubben of Missouri and Dean Ubben of California; and many grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Cleland, and a baby sister.
