Mildred Gowen

Feb. 8, 1931 – Sept. 13, 2015

Mildred F. Gowen, 84, of Sweet Home passed away Sunday. She was born in Clovis, N.M. to Frederick Nettles and Helen (Skeen) Key.

She grew up in Clovis. She moved to Arcata, Calif., where she graduated high achool and met her husband of 55 years. They raised their four children in Stanislaus County, Calif. They moved to Sweet Home in the early 1990s.

In her young adult life she worked at various canneries and nursing homes.

She read her Bible daily. She loved jigsaw puzzles. Mildred sewed quilts for all of grand- and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed watching “NCIS” and reading novels.

Mildred is survived by her children: John D. Gowen of Mariposa, Calif., Judy D. Hanson of San Ramon, Calif., Teresa J. Schoonover of Sweet Home; Uncle Ray Skein and cousins from Clovis; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence D. Gowen (Nov. 27, 2004) and daughter Theda J. Davenport (July 23, 2013).

Graveside service will be 11:00 am Saturday, September 19, at Gilliland Cemetery.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
