Nova Nelson

Nova Emily Nelson, 88, of Sweet Home died April 29, 2015.

She was born Jan. 14, 1927 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Irven Elihue and Nora Ellen (Barker) Howell.

At a young age she moved with her parents and older brother to Pleasant Valley, Idaho. When she was 8 years old the family moved to Las Vegas, Nev., where she graduated from Las Vegas High. She and her family moved to Fallon, Nev., where they lived on a farm for one year then moved back to Las Vegas.

In 1950 she married Richard Joseph Dillman, but they later divorced in 1955. She married Raymond John Nelson in 1960. Being a mother of four, she and Mr. Nelson became a family of six. Soon, with the addition of two more children, they were a family of eight.

Over the years the Nelsons lived in several places including Afton, Wyo.; Kuna and Meridian, Idaho; Prairie City, Sweet Home and Bend, Oregon.

Mrs. Nelson worked most of her life as a PBX operator at Bell Telephone in Las Vegas, at St. Charles Hospital in Bend, and finally at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital in Las Vegas. She continued working there when it became University Medical Center for about 20 years.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by her six children, Laura of North Bend, Stephen of Pahrump, Nev., Roseanna of Sweet Home, Dean of Provo, Utah, Marilyn of Vashon, Wash., and John of Sweet Home; a younger brother, Irven; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Nelson; her parents; brother Elihue; and sister Nomia.

Graveside services were held May 5 at Pilot Butte Cemetery in Bend.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
