Matthew “Matt” L. Jackman, 38, of Sweet Home died Jan. 16, 2015 of natural causes due to long-term health issues at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.
He was born Dec. 21, 1976 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Jerald and Joyce (Sudbrock) Jackman. A short time later they moved to La Grande, where he was raised and attended La Grande High School as part of the class of 1995.
Following high school, he spent several years in Tigard area, before moving to Prineville, where he worked as a pharmacy technician. He then relocated to the Sweet Home area, where he spent the last 10 years.
Mr. Jackman became a stay-at-home dad and became very active in the lives of his children. He was a supporter of the band and local sports, becoming involved with his children’s teams. He was a volunteer with several community organizations, including FairShare Gleaners, HeadStart and Manna, to name a few.
Mr. Jackman is survived by his four children, Dustin and Kody Jackman, and Ann and Johnathan Logan, all of Sweet Home; one grandchild; his father, Jerald Jackman and step-mother Julia; brothers Brett, Andrew, Kyle and J.T.; step-brother Anthony; sisters Tina and Wendy; grandmothers Mona Sudbrock of La Grande and Gwen Jackman of Salt Lake City, Utah; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Jackman; grandfathers Virgil Sudbrock and “Daddy Guy” Jackman; and his uncle, Roy Wilhelm.
A memorial service was held at Sweet Home Evangelical Church on Jan. 19, led by Pastor Brian Hotrum. A graveside service was held Jan. 20 in Island City at the Island City cemetery.
McHenry’s funeral Home of Corvallis handled the arrangements.
