Feb. 23, 1917 – March 12, 2014
Ethel Ohr Rose, daughter of Fred Lyle and Ethel Clara Ohr, passed away on March 12, 2014 in Albany. She was 97 years old.
A long-time resident of Sweet Home, Ethel was born on Feb. 23, 1917 in Ranchvale, N.M. Her mother died shortly after Ethel’s birth. Her grandmother moved into the home and cared for her until her father remarried when Ethel was 3 years old.
Her new step-mother, Anna Brownell Ohr, raised Ethel lovingly along with the twin brother and sister who soon joined the family.
Ethel married Russel Leon Rose, whom she met at Kansas State University. They moved to Oregon from Kansas in 1951. Russel Rose passed away in 1975 in Sweet Home. Ethel taught ele-mentary school in Sweet Home until her retirement in 1981.
Ethel is survived by her three children. Michael Rose lives in Prairie City, Ore. with his wife Viola. Judy Vian has made Albany her home with her husband, Virgil. Sally Palmer lives in Sweet Home with her husband, Paul. Grandchildren are Tiffiny Medders, Lance Rose, April Palmer, Devin Vian, Mark Palmer, Todd Vian and Sarah McGlauflin.
Ethel’s family are grateful for Mother instilling a good work ethic in her children. She took us bean and berry picking when we were young, and worked hard to create a safe and comfortable home for us.
She was a woman of strong Christian faith, raising her children with integrity which has influenced our lives in all the years following. She had a deep curiosity about different cultures, and traveled widely including visits to Sitka, Alaska, Israel, Ireland, Germany, Panama, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Fiji, and New Zealand.
