Leland Bolen

July 10, 1932 – July 4, 2013

Leland Clark Bolen, 80, of La Grande, died July 4 at Grande Ronde Hospital. He was laid to rest at Hillcrest cemetery.

Lee was born on July 10, 1932, the son of Virgil and Opal (Clark) Bolen in Sciota, Ill.

He was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korean War and later earned his master’s degree at Eastern Oregon University. In 1959, he moved to Sweet Home, where he was a teacher and principal until his retirement in 1987.

After his retirement, he returned to La Grande, where he was active with the Elks Lodge and was a Past Exalted Ruler. He was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his children, Paul Bolen of Turner, Kevin Bolen of La Grande and Kelee Gatliff of Sweet Home; brother, Leon Bolen of Salem; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; former wife, Milodene Bolen of Sweet Home; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Bolen, and brothers, Gene and Phil Bolen.
