Louise Tyler Meiling, 87, of Sweet Home died Feb. 4, 2013 due to age-related causes.
She was born June 29, 1925 to Roy and Helen (Kirk) Tyler in Willamina. The family later moved to the Mountain Home area and she graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1943.
She attended Oregon College of Education (now WOU) in Monmouth. During her college summers she worked at Camp Adair serving World War II troops.
She married Ralph August Meiling Aug. 10, 1947 in Lebanon after he returned from World War II service overseas. They had been married almost 60 years when he died in May of 2007.
Mrs. Meiling was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her deep love for God and His Word, along with her desire to live a godly life, continues to be inspiration for her family. She was a gifted teacher and loved teaching children.
Mrs. Meiling taught elementary school most of her adult life before retiring from Sweet Home School District in 1984. She taught at Hawthorne Elementary School in Sweet Home for 22 years.
She loved gardening of all kinds, sewing and caring for her family. There was no project too complicated for Mrs. Meiling to tackle.
She is survived by a sister, Mary Tyler Nelson; daughters Sally Meiling Lewin and son-in-law Stan of Keizer, and Linda Meiling VavRosky and son-in-law Mike of Juliaetta, Idaho; daughter-in-law Denise Walters Meiling of Missouri and husband Paul; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Meilng was preceded in death by her husband Ralph; son Paul; parents Roy and Helen; brothers Edward, Loten, Everett and Sam Tyler; and sisters Elma Tyler Stewart, Inez Tyler, Cora Tyler Cantrell, Mildred Tyler Henkle and Rosalie Tyler.
A memorial service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Waterloo Chapel in Waterloo.
