Robert Borders

Robert O. Borders, 76, of Baker City, formerly of Vernonia, died April 3, 2012 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.

He was born Aug. 20, 1935 in Lansing, Kan. He moved from Armourdale, Kan. to the Vanport Community in Portland in 1942. He married Jean Ann Anderegg on April 21, 1953 in Stevenson, Wash.

Mr. Borders had many occupations during his life; working in the timber industry in Springfield and Vernonia, owning a restaurant in Vernonia for many years, selling real estate, and was the owner /operator of R & J Log Trucking in Vernonia. He retired to Richland in 1997, later settling in Baker City.

He loved the outdoors from hunting trips to Eastern Oregon, trout fishing on the Snake River, to salmon fishing on the Oregon Coast – all the while planting bountiful gardens every year.

Mr. Borders is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Ann Borders; three sons, Bob and daughter-in-law Robbie of Baker City, Steve of Vernonia, and David of Lebanon; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beulah South; and his brother Derald Borders.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Elm Street Baptist Church in Sweet Home.
