Josephine Becker

Josephine Louise Becker, 84, of Lebanon died Nov. 18, 2011 at the Century Fields Assisted Living Facility.

She was born Sept. 26, 1927 in Memphis, Tenn., the daughter of Phillip and Flora King Conley. She graduated from Tech High School in Memphis and worked for Southwestern University (now Rhodes College). She married Elden Glen Becker in Memphis on June 27, 1947. The couple resided in Memphis for 22 years before moving to Crawfordsville in 1968. Mrs. Becker lived in Crawfordsville until moving to Century Fields in 2009.

She was a member of the Crawfordsville Garden Club, Red Hat Society and a lifelong member of the Elks Club of Sweet Home. She enjoyed reading and cooking and she and Elden made award-winning wines. They enjoyed traveling and were snowbirds for many years. She collected elephant figurines. Most of all, she loved being with her children and grandchildren.

As a cherished cousin, Louis, said upon her death, “Aunt Josephine was truly one of my favorite people in my life. She was always fun and happy.” She was loved a s mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

She is survived by her daughters, Gwen Perkins of Franklin, Tenn. and Sharon Bush of Albany; sons Glenn Becker of Crawfordsville and John Becker of Sweet Home; a sister, Patricia McNamara of McAllister, Okla., 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elden in 2003; and two sisters, Elizabeth and Margaret.

A memorial service was held Nov. 22 at Century Fields Assisted Living. A private burial will be at the Crawfordsville Union Cemetery in Crawfordsville.
