Donald D. Hugley

Dec. 19, 1928 – March 16, 2007

Donald D. Hugley, 78, of Sweet Home, died March 16, 2007 in Albany. He was born on Dec. 19, 1928 in Manning, the son of Burl and Elma (Abbott) Hugley.

Mr. Hugley moved to Sweet Home in 1945. He entered the U.S. Army in 1950 in the Korean War. He was discharged in 1952, returning to Sweet Home where he married Betty Amundson on March 13, 1946.

Mr. Hugley was a logger and professional musician who worked with Bobby Bare, Buck Owes, Tommy Collins and Ray Price during his long musical career. He was also a commercial fisherman and worked at Oregon Plywood.

He loved being in the woods, picking mushrooms and ferns, sharing these activities with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening.

Mr. Hugley is survived by wife of 59 years, Betty June (Amundson) Hugley of Sweet Home; son, Ronald Hugley; daughters, Melody Ferdani and Nancy Berggren, both of Sweet Home; sister, Ina Lehtz of Bloomington, Ind.; many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ivan and Wayne, and one sister, Maxine.

A graveside service was held March 20 at Gilliland Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the family in lieu of flowers, the Kidney Foundation or Safe Haven.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
