Editor:
We are indebted to a small group of Sweet Home seniors whose resourcefulness, determination and ingenuity led to the incorporation of the Sweet Home Senior Center 50 years ago.
Their support of a “share” bus also led to the extensive transportation system which we enjoy today.
It is unfortunate that the “pandemic restrictions” placed upon senior centers for the past year have caused the closure of the Senior Center facility located in the Jim Riggs Community Center.
The doors were open to a small, select group, among which were the staff and employees of the transportation system.
For this reason, a small group of friends wishing to share farewell wishes with long-time community volunteer Delena Gilman chose to provide this opportunity at the Sweet Home Community Center, which has been open throughout the year for various functions rather than at the Sweet Home Senior Center with its state-imposed restrictions.
We look forward to the time, once again, when resourceful, determined and creative leaders will be able to restore the Senior Center to its former place of social and educational opportunities for Sweet Home’s seniors.
