Ozzie Shaw key in creation of lakes

Editor:

A great part of Ozzie Shaw’s history (Jan. 6) is his key role in the Sweet Home Green Peter Boat Yacht and Regatta Association.

They were instrumental in getting the Green Peter and Foster dams built in the 1950s and early ’60s.

The group marched in most Linn County Parades in their snappy yacht club uniforms and gave a backhanded salute, palm up to anyone looking their way.

They went to whoever held the keys to building those two dams, lobbying far and wide.

This group was the first to put a rowboat in the puddle of water forming beneath the new dams.

There is information and photos in The New Era in the late 1950s, when Dave Cooper was news editor of The New Era, then owned by Bill Dudley and A.E. “Mac” Macoubrie.

Ozzie had his finger in most projects promoting Sweet Home and he will be sorely missed.
