I am wondering about what is happening at our library.
We have had two wonderful women who have worked at the library for many years. Instead of giving them more hours, our new librarian has hired a new person. This new person, although very nice, is a friend of hers. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to give the two women who are working and trying to make a living in our town more hours?
Now I find out that one of these women will be leaving the library by July. Does this mean that the new person will get more hours? There is a word for this type of hiring and firing: cronyism.
I pay for my library card and I use the library quite a bit. I thoroughly enjoy not only the library but the people who work there. I just do not think that this is appropriate behavior towards loyal employees who have made our library the success it is today.
I hope that all of Sweet Home’s library patrons will speak up for those who have done all they could to keep us in wonderful reading material and to make our library a fantastic place to be.
