Obama’s remarks troubling to reader

Editor:

I was deeply troubled this past week upon hearing our president speak disparagingly of Christians as hypocrites.

The truth be known, we are all hypocrites. It doesn’t matter what faith – Buddhists, Christians, Muslims or no faith at all – we are all hypocrites at some point.

The difference with those who sincerely call Christ their Lord and Savior is that they find forgiveness of their sin through Christ’s death and resurrection. We serve a risen Lord who died for our sins on the cross – the only one who could pay the penalty for our rebellion against God, who rose again with triumph over death, who understands our weaknesses, who loves and forgives us every time we genuinely confess and repent.

We are all human and I distinctly remember our president lie knowingly about issues on health care. I think that knowing the truth and then lying about it constitutes being a hypocrite.

I will say with all honesty and humility that every day I find myself coming to God to confess and realign myself with His Word and He forgives me, praise God.

All over the world today we see and hear of persecution of Christians – men, women and children being murdered and martyred for their faith. Our media tend to downplay it. Where is the outrage and the actions necessary to stop those perpetrators of violence?

Our own president stands up at a press conference and specifically singles out the Christian community with veiled contempt. Those spoken words and his attitude I can see as fueling the fire for Muslim extremists and their hatred for Christians.

Here in our own country, where our Constitution provides freedom for all faiths, we can see religious protection being slowly stripped away.

Someone once said, “The only way for evil to thrive is for good men to do nothing.” I don’t want to do nothing – my faith means everything to me! Let’s do something!
