Editor:
I would certainly like to congratulate Sweet Home School District 55 Supt. Schrader and School Board members who voted for the four day school week and arranged the schedule so it least affects the financial burden on the administration and teachers.
I realize that cuts must be made but was wondering after reading The New Era article stating the school board had approved funds for the Football Team to travel to Spokane, Wash. to a team camp. Where are these funds coming from and why are they being used this way?
Folks, there is something wrong with this picture when the district is crying for such badly needed cuts but can still find money for team camps, field trips for all the school kids. Don’t the parents and taxpayers carry enough burden now without paying for these non-essential goodies?
In closing, I would think the administration and School Board should seriously attempt to cut many of the bloated benefits being paid to certain employees and using the funds to enhance the education of our kids and stop playing PC game and the CYA policy.
