In reference to your article on the closing of the Cascadia Post Office, it is not a God-given right to have your mail delivered, thus the name United States Postal Service.
The people in Cascadia need their P.O.! I had the pleasure of subbing there when Ruth Powers (postmaster) had a broken leg. The people look out for one another and the P.O. goes to great lengths to see that home-bound people get their money orders purchased and their mail to them. Also, the cost of gas makes it prohibitive to go to Foster. Cascadia is a wonderful step back in time when things were done on a handshake!
Also, were you aware that little trailer has no running water and has an outhouse? Rain, snow, you have to go outside to the bathroom. That’s dedication for Ruth. The little library is nice and is used. The extra veggies and garlic are dropped off and utilized by all. Tourists stop to take pictures.
Let’s all band together to keep the Cascadia P.O. open! They deserve it.
