Don’t like tree? Get to work!

Editor:

If people object to a secular holiday tree on government premises, then Christmas is not a holiday. Therefore all government offices should have no Christmas break, from Congress to the Post Office to the local county offices. Also, no Good Friday or Easter time off, or Thanksgiving either.

In the name of separation of church and state, those employees should be on the job. Jews celebrate their holidays without harassment or acknowledgement, and the government doesn’t take time off for them. Put the Christian holidays on the same basis.

If those objectors want to keep their holiday vacation time, then stop the harassment. Without the Christian origin of this holiday (in this nation; I’m not talking about millenia past) there would be no holiday, so what would the seculars be celebrating? Would it merit time off from work, like Independence Day?

I suppose New Year’s Day would suffice, but that would shorten the time off. Get to work!

While I’m speaking of Christmas, why are gift cards so popular? A lot of them have fees, expiration dates, can be used only at certain places. What’s wrong with a check that can be cashed and used anywhere? Kids love cash!
