Fire bond necessary?

Editor:

Old story, more money. The fire district is wanting a fire equipment bond, Ballot Measure 22-66, for new equipment. Why? Because the equipment is 20 years old? Does that mean it’s no good? No it’s just because it’s old and they want new, shiny equipment. What is the mileage on this antique eauipment? Why can’t we refurbish this equipment with a company in Harrisburg noted for this specialized repair and upgrading?

Another item: Why a 75-foot aerial apparatus at $600,000? There is no building that’s that high in the district. Don’t they have extension ladders or a bucket unit at a lot less money?

I’m an old fire person and I can’t swallow the total cost of this new, shiny equipment of $1,805,000. That’s a lot of money in one gulp. Why not spread it over a few years?
