Resident worried about emissions

Editor:

We live above the Weyerhaueser Foster Plywood Plant on Riggs Hill Road each night as we eat dinner, between 4 and 6 p.m., we see the dark smoke they are discharging from several chimneys.

We feel there should be more stringent regulations on the amount of pollutants that they are allowed to discharge 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

Weyerhaueser has increased production, which means they are increasing the amount of pollutants that they discharge each day. How often are they monitored for the amounts of toxins that we are breathing in. Also, do any of the wastewater pollutants go into the reservoir?

Has any study been made of the effects of the toxins on the population in the Sweet Home and Foster area with regard to lung or cancer problems. This should be done as there is more than one plant in the area.
