A few weeks ago I had a 4 1/2 hour ?discussion? with a young liberal. We covered all the bases, finding a few nuggets of life upon which we both could find a little common ground…but very little.
His litany…big business is bad (even though he works for a capitalistic company), private citizens should not own guns (because they make others uncomfortable), hunting is unnecessary and therefore should be outlawed and yet…abortion should be allowed because it?s the woman?s right to choose.
Let me see if I can follow this thinking. I shouldn?t be allowed to own a gun to protect my family or hunt because I might kill another human being or perhaps an elk or deer (fat chance of any of the above happening).
Yet, it?s OK to condone the death of millions of babies in the last 30 years.
How does that thinking track?
We mention this because the ?Jane Roe? who filed suit to legalize abortion in America has been fighting for the last 10 years to reverse the Supreme Court?s 1973 decision.
She says more than 30 years of evidence shows abortion is psychologically harmful to women.
Last week a federal appeals judge agreed to hear Norma McCorvey?s request to have the landmark ruling overturned.
We do not diminish issues surrounding the lives impacted by an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy, but we should not wholesale the value of the unborn life either.
Our nightly news programs bemoan our nation?s flagging morality, drug use and other maladies…but we fail to take issue with how degrading abortion is to our society.
It has an impact on all of us, whether we realize it or not, because it scars those involved both mother and father.
It is not natural for a man or woman to kill their offspring and the time has come to review Roe v. Wade.
