Members of the city council at Tuesday’s meeting approved a rate hike increase by Sweet Home Sanitation Co. and a request by Citizens Valley Bank for vacation of the western portion of the alley which exits on 10th Avenue between Main and Long Streets.

Sweet Home Police Chief Orville Powell in cooperation with the area drug abuse officials want to remind everyone that the joyous holiday season can become the scene of tragedy because of holiday drinking problems.

Mr. and Mrs. Dwaine Galloway and two children, of Bend, spent Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Galloway. Mr. and Mrs. John Galloway, of Portland, came down the latter part of the week. Mrs. Frank O’Brien, of Oregon City, came Sunday. They all returned home Sunday afternoon.

A 17-year-old Tillamook county boy who spent the summer as a fire watchman keeping Oregon’s Douglas Fir country green has been named runner-up in the American Forest Products Industries’ national 4-H scholarship competition.

The Sweet Home Lumbermen, Jaycee-sponsored city team hoopsters, have been idle since Dec. 20, when they posted their seventh victory in nine starts this season by thrashing Cascades Plywood of Lebanon, 69-45.

During a ceremony performed Dec. 21 at the Community Chapel, Miss Arliss Colleen Emmert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Emmert, of La Verne, Calif., formerly of Sweet Home, became the bride of Robert Eugene Kauffman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Kauffman, of Middleburg, Ind.
