The City Council meeting on May 8 was a pinnacle moment for Sweet Home and its community. To see how many people showed up for this meeting that were in support of this new legislation (that would allow Texas Hold ‘Em tournaments) was remarkable.
Where I got lost was when the argument from the other side came down to people sitting in diapers gambling, child molesters and morality. I say sit down, get a copy of the 2004 World Series of Poker. Watch how a young man named Chris Moneymaker won a $40 satellite tournament which gave him a seat in the World Series of Poker. He won that tournament and became a millionaire.
The first person he turned to when he won was his father and embraced him in a tearful hug. I think watching this tournament would change anybody’s mind about poker and the way it is played today.
