Give charter school fair opportunity

Editor:

I’m writing concerning the charter school. I do not have any children or grandchildren in the School District and came into this unbiased. I have been to Sand Ridge Charter School several times and have been very impressed with the education the children are receiving.

I started hearing that the Sweet Home School Board looked like they were fighting against a charter school, like Sand Ridge, from coming into Sweet Home. I attended two school board meetings to see what I could find out. It was very interesting to hear both sides.

The conclusion I have come to is that we have several school board members that are very sincere and are trying to learn what they can with an open mind. I believe these people are trying to represent those that put them in office and are doing a fine job of it. Then there are those that, in spite of what they are saying, just don’t seem to want a charter school.

I’m disappointed as it appears these board members have made up their minds and have quit listening. When they do that are they really representing those who put them in their positions on the school board? It shouldn’t be the ones with more power that win this argument; it should be based on what is best for the children. I believe a charter school would be a wonderful choice within the Sweet Home public school system and that they should be given a fair opportunity.
