In their final home meet of the season Thursday, Feb. 6, Sweet Home’s swimmers continued to put the pedal to the metal as they zeroed in on this weekend’s district meet.
It was the final home meet for seniors Megan Hager, Torree Hawken, Valerie Richards, Annaleea Shuttlesworth and Brook Womack, who were recognized by Coach Doug Peargin before the event began.
The Huskies posted “multiple PR’s” as the girls scored 169 points, well ahead of second-place Stayton at 91. The boys were third with 65 points, behind North Marion (99) and Stayton (97).
Sweet Home’s girls take a 30-1 season record into the meet, which will take place at South Albany’s pool, with preliminaries Friday and finals on Saturday. The boys, who have had five swimmers nearly all season, are 9-21.
Hunter Calderwood and Jacob Kennedy both were winners for the boys in individual events, Calderwood taking the 500 Freestyle in a personal-best 5:41.04 and Kennedy also posting a PR in winning the 50 Backstroke in 34.39.
Individual winners for the girls, who took first in all three relays, were Hager in the 100 Individual Medley – in a PR of 1:00.19 – and the 50 Butterfly, Malia Hewitt in the 50 Freestyle and the 50 Breaststroke, Chloe Tyler in the 100 Freestyle and the 50 Backstroke, and Hailey Armendariz, who set a PR of 6:54.70 in winning the 500 Freestyle.
“I think we’ve found the events that our kids are going to be their best at for the district,” Coach Doug Peargin said. “Now we’re going to rest up a little so we can be our best at district and state.”
