Volleyball: As face-off with Sisters approaches, Huskies take care of business

Sweet Home retained its No. 2 state volleyball ranking last week with a 3-0 win over Stayton Wednesday, Oct. 9, after beating Philomath in four games the previous Monday.

“It was pretty routine,” Coach Mary Hutchins said of the 25-15, 25-15, 25-9 victory that left the Huskies unbeaten in Oregon West play at 9-0, 16-1 overall, with three matches left.

Sweet Home will host Cascade (1-7, 2-12) on Thursday, Oct. 17, before finishing on the road at No. 4 Sisters on Monday, Oct. 21, and Newport on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

“We’re preparing for Sisters,” Hutchins said. “They will definitely be geared up to play us. It’s a very important game for both of us. It will also be a big indicator of what our postseason will look like, whether we will get to keep our ranking and get to host.”

Thursday’s game will be Senior Night and will be Pink Out, in which the cheering section will be adorned in pink, in a stand against breast cancer.
