Local swimmers compete in regional all-star meet

Sweet Home Swim Club’s Chloe Tyler and RJ Abbott swam on Oregon’s all-star team in the Oregon Swimming Western Zone Championships last week at Mt. Hood Community College.

Tyler, who will be a sophomore this fall, said she posted a number of personal best times in the event, which included top swimmers from a dozen western states.

Competing in the girls 13-14 individual events, Tyler was 26th in the 200-Meter Individual Medley, in 2:16.23; 26th in the 100 Freestyle (1:02.47); 26th in the 200 Freestyle (2:16.23); 30th in the 100 Meter Backstroke (1:11.09); 31st in the 200 Backstroke (2:33.40); and 50th in the 50 Freestyle (29.68).

She also helped Oregon’s 14 and Under 400-Meter Freestyle Relay team to fifth place, in 4:04.59 and seventh in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:53.07).

Competing in the boys 11-12 individual events, Abbott was 19th in the 400-Meter Freestyle (5:00.18); 24th in the 200 Freestyle (2:23.49); 25th in the 50 Breaststroke (38.99); 38th in the 100 Freestyle (1:07.06); 40th in the 50 Freestyle (30.14); and 50th in the 50 Butterfly (36.25).

He also was a member of the 12 and Under 400-Meter Freestyle Relay team that finished 13th; and the 200 Freestyle Relay team, which was 11th in 1:59.18.

Oregon’s team finished sixth overall, with California teams taking four of the top five spots in the points standings.
