Huskies to host XC meet; public invited to watch, help Thursday

Sweet Home High School will host its first true home cross-country meet in years Thursday, Sept. 13, at Community Chapel, 42250 Ames Creek Road.

Eighteen high school and 16 junior teams are scheduled to compete in the event, which begins at 3 p.m. and will run till about 7. An open (all-comers) race will be held at 6:15 p.m. as a fund-raiser for the cross-country program. Entry fee is $20.

Admission is free for spectators.

Volunteers are needed to help direct runners around the course and otherwise provide support.

Middle-schoolers will run a 3,000-meter course at 3 p.m., followed by high school junior varsity girls and boys, in separate races starting at 4 p.m. on the same course.

The girls varsity 5,000-meter race starts at 5 p.m. with the boys running at 5:40.

A full barbecue-style meal will be available for purchase of $7.
