Sweet Home’s boys golfers opened their season Tuesday, March 14, with scramble-format season-opening tournament at Mallard Creek.
Playing best ball against pairs from seven other schools – Cascade, Cottage Grove, Junction City, Lebanon, Newport, Oakridge and Stayton, junior Jake Hindmarsh and freshman Travis Thorpe finished third with a team score of 74. Junior Seth Wright and sophomore Jackson Lynn were 12th 86.
On Friday, March 16, the Huskies played at Bandon Crossings Invitational, finishing last in a field of eight teams using regular tournament scoring.
Hindmarsh led the Huskies with a 53-41-94, followed by freshman Carson Smith (58-55-113), and freshman Davin Guzman (67-55-122).
Cascade Christian won the team competition with a 334.
May shoots 105 in opener
Sweet Home’s girls opened their season Monday, March 20, at Salem Golf Club, hosted by Salem Academy.
The Huskies only had two players play the full 18 holes – juniors Haley May and Alayna Davis, so they did not figure in the team scoring against Blanchet (468), Salem Academy (499), Taft (481), Newport (461) and Cottage Grove (535).
May shot 54-51 to finish with a 105, while Davis went 72-73-145.
Blanchet’s Katie Goodwin finished with 43-44-87 to win medalist honors.
Playing nine holes for the Huskies was Nicole Grady, shooting 67 for the low score among the eight girls playing nine holes.
