Doug Peargin wins coaching award

Sweet Home coach Doug Peargin was named this year’s Oregon Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year for swimming at the OACA Awards Banquet, held May 21 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene.

Peargin’s girls went 26-0 in head-to-head competition and won the 1A/2A/3A/4A state championship in February.

During his 42 seasons at Sweet Home, the Husky girls have won 33 district championships. This year’s state title was their first, after finishing as runner-ups in 2015.

Peargin said he coaches because “I love showing kids that through hard work and goal-setting, anything is possible.

“Plus, there are the life-long friendships that are established between swimmers and coaches.”

This is the third time Peargin has won OSCA Coach of the Year and he also has been named National Coach of the Year.
