Sweet Home’s boys varsity golfers spent Friday, April 15, at Agate Beach in Newport.
But it was a practice round for them, since the Huskies only had three players on the course, one short of the number needed to score as a team.
That didn’t stop sophomore Seth Wright, who shot a lifetime-best 96 to lead his colleagues to a total of 308.
“Our goal was to hit 300,” Coach Pat Davis said. “We were excited.”
Jackson Lynn finished with 104 and Jake Hindmarsh carded a 106.
The girls, along with two boys, played April 13 at Middlefield in Cottage Grove in a scramble format.
Hindmarsh and Cameron Lukas, both sophomores, teamed up to shoot an 81 for third place.
Haley May and Alayna Davis shot 41 for nine holes.
The Huskies host(ed) their first home tournament Tuesday afternoon, April 19, at Mallard Creek.
All nine league teams were expected to be there, in the same place for the first time this year, Pat Davis said.
The girls are scheduled to play at the Oregon Golf Association course in North Marion Wednesday, April 20, and again at Chinook Winds in Lincoln City on Thursday, April 21, followed by another match on Monday, April 25, at Santiam in Stayton.
