Local athlete Austin Linville places second in decathlon

Austin Linville of Sweet Home finished second at the Summit Decathlon Friday and Saturday, March 25-26, at Summit High School in Bend.

Linville, a senior at East Linn Christian Academy, finished with 4934 points, behind Brendan Thurber-Blaser of Newport.

Linville finished second behind Thurber-Blaser in two of the 10 events, the high jump (1.84 meters/6.03 feet) and the 110 hurdles (16.67).

Thurber-Blaser, also a senior, also won the shot put and the discus and finished in the top four in all 10 events.

Also competing from Sweet Home was sophomore Rachel Busek in the six-event heptathlon, finishing 13th with 2208 points. Her best event finish was in the shot put, in which she was eighth (7.92 meters/25.98 feet).
