Guzman leads Huskies in golf season opener

Sweet Home’s boys opened their golf season March 17 at Tokatee and it became immediately clear that this will be a building year for the Huskies.

“We played golf,” Coach Pat Davis said. The Huskies’ aim this year is to finish with a four-player team score of 400 or below. They shot 472 at Tokatee.

Sutherlin won the meet with a 373, the only team among nine scorers to finish under 400.

Dawson Guzman shot 105 to lead the Huskies.

“We’ll get there,” Davis said. “The scores for this meet were right about where I thought they’d be. We obviously need to get better.

“But they had fun, they enjoyed it and they’re going to get better.”

Sweet Home will play Thursday, March 31, at Santiam in Stayton. The junior varsity boys and the girls will open their season April 1 at Fiddler’s Green in Junction City.
