The Huskies named Brett Blachly their Most Valuable Player in baseball during an awards dessert held on June 8.
Blachly, the team’s catcher, hit .506 on the season and also earned the Big Stick Award.
Winning the Hustle Award were Jake Long and Joe Salsbery.
Justin Tow, who committed just five errors all season at shortstop, won the Golden Glove Award with a fielding percentage of .943.
Most Improved went to Desmond Ely.
Daniel Virtue was Rookie of the Year, and Cole Ashcraft was Pitcher of the Year.
Members of the 100 Club were Long, Virtue, Blachly, Tow and Ely. The 100 Club includes players who missed no practices or games all season.
The Golden Glove, Big Stick and Pitcher of the Year awards are chosen by the coaches. The remaining awards are selected by the team members.
Earning their first letters in baseball were Virtue, a sophomore; Ely, a junior; and Salsbery, a senior who transferred to Sweet Home this year.
Earning their second letters were sophomore Keanu Aiona; juniors Long, Tow and Brandon Keenon; and seniors Hunter Jutte and Colyn Van Eck.
Earning their third letters were seniors Ashcraft, Blachly and Kevin Seiber.
“We were just a really well-rounded team altogether,” said Coach Dan Tow. “We had a great season, one of the best.”
The team played well in all three phases of the game – hitting, defense and pitching, Tow said. The team never had a really bad game all year long.
The team competed in every game, and won a lot more games than it lost.
The Huskies ended the season 11-4 in the Sky-Em League and 16-8 overall. The Huskies won a play-in game against Marshfield High School. North Bend eliminated the Huskies in the first round of playoffs.
“We had really great support,” Tow said. Family, friends and fans were involved and attended the games, and the Huskies had a great time, something that usually goes hand in hand with the kind of season the Huskies had.
