SH well-represented among Runaway Pumpkin finishers

Seventeen Sweet Home runners and walkers were among the finishers in the 2014 Runaway Pumpkin Half Marathon Saturday, Oct. 18.

The 13.1-mile course started in Cheadle Park in Lebanon, crossed the South Santiam River, proceeded east along Berlin Road, through Waterloo, and returned to the park along River Road.

Sweet Home runners who finished in the top 100 of their race were Melanie Jones, 35th among the female contestants in 1:51:66; Randy Carper, 85th among the males in 1:54:50; Shawna Yunke, 63rd among females in 1:58:11; and Mindy Brown-Cummings, 71st among females in 1:59:56.

Other Sweet Home finishers were: Stacey Vannice in 2:16:13; Sydney Mauer, 13, who finished first in her age group in 2:23:36; Sarah Welch in 2:23:37; Stan Crain in 2:27:51; Jonni Dunn in 2:31:27; Rachel Tyler in 2:35:02; Kelly Sautel in 2:35:03; Michelle Mauer in 2:50:30; Troy Cockrell in 2:51:14; Pam Adank in 3:21:11; Michael Rossiter in 3:32:31; Tonya Jensen in 3:40:50; and Dar Hummer, also in 3:40:50.

A total of 812 runners finished the race, which was won by Dane Sawyer of Portland in 1:14:01. The first woman finisher was Brett Ely of Eugene, who was fourth overall in 1:20:43.
