Huskies fall to Sisters, rebound against La Pine to tie for third in league

Sweet Home defeated La Pine 6-3 Friday afternoon after losing 8-0 at Sisters on April 29.

With 5-5 league records, the Huskies, 10-7 overall, are tied with Junction City for third place in the Sky-Em. Cottage Grove, 6-4, is in second, while Sisters, 10-0, leads the league and is first in the Oregon Student Activities Association rankings.

Sweet Home is ranked 14th, while Cottage Grove is ranked 19th and Junction City is ranked 33rd. The rankings are used to plan the playoffs bracket.

Elmira is fifth in league with a 4-6 record, and La Pine is last at 0-10.

The Huskies are scheduled to visit Cottage Grove Wednesday and host Cottage Grove Friday. They travel to Junction City on Tuesday.

Sweet Home 6, La Pine 3

Sweet Home scored a run each in the first and second inning to build an early lead.

La Pine scored in the top of the third, and the Huskies scored twice to lead 4-1 going into the fourth.

La Pine added another pair of runs in the fourth inning to get within a run of Sweet Home, but the Huskies held off the Hawks and scored a run each in the fifth and sixth to close out the game.

Brandon Keenon was winning pitcher, striking out eight batters and giving up three walks, hits and runs, two earned, in five innings. Tyler Funk pitched two innings in relief, striking out one batter and giving up no hits, walks or runs.

At the plate, J.T. Weld led hitting with a triple and a run. Austin Rice added a double with a run and an RBI. Also collecting base hits were Justin Tow, Keenon, Kevin Seiber and Colyn Van Eck. Van Eck had two RBIs, while Brett Blachly and Seiber added one each. Also scoring runs were Blachly, Keenon with two and Van Eck.

Sisters began scoring right away, with a run in the first inning and two each in the third and fourth. The Outlaws closed the game with three runs in the sixth.

At bat, the Huskies scratched out two hits, singles by Tow and Van Eck.

Cole Ashcraft, losing pitcher, started and pitched four innings, giving up seven walks, six hits and five runs, four earned, while striking out four Outlaws.

Pitching in relief, Funk walked one and gave up two hits and three runs, while striking out one in most of two innings.

Devin Stafford pitched a partial inning, striking out one and walking one.
