Cottage Grove 60, Sweet Home 34

The Huskies lost 59-35 at Elmira Saturday and 60-34 to Cottage Grove at home on Jan. 28.

Elmira jumped out to a 16-4 first-quarter lead and 36-9 lead at halftime. The Huskies trailed 47-16 at the end of the third and then outscored Elmira 19-12 in the fourth quarter.

“We handled their press, but we couldn’t find a basket,” said Coach Steve Brown. “Another good fourth quarter.”

Cottage Grove led 21-11 after a quarter and 40-15 at halftime. Its lead grew to 53-24 by the end of the third.

The Huskies will play at home the next three games, including La Pine on Friday, Junction City on Feb. 11 and Sisters on Feb. 14.

“We played Junction City close, and we messed up at the end,” Brown said, and the team is looking for a win there.

La Pine plays low-scoring games in a zone defense, so his team will need to shoot well Friday night, Brown said.
