Stayton 59, Sweet Home 39

The varsity girls basketball team had a tough time putting together four quarters per game last week, losing at home 54-27 to Phoenix on Saturday and 59-39 to Stayton on Jan. 14.

“We just came out so flat the first period,” said Coach Steve Brown about Phoenix. “We had a lot of turnovers in the first quarter, and that sealed the deal for us.”

Trailing 23-6 after one quarter the Huskies had the the edge, 17-15, the next two before Phoenix took the momentum again in the fourth.

Against Stayton, the Huskies trailed 16-6 after one quarter, 31-18 at halftime and 55-22 after three quarters.

“If we could put four good quarters together, we’d be pretty stinking good,” Brown said. “They’re doing the best they can. It’ll come.”

The Huskies were scheduled to open league on the road against Junction City Tuesday, play at Sisters on Friday and host Cottage Grove on Jan. 28.
