The Sweet Home volleyball team finished its season Tuesday, Oct. 22, with a four-game loss to Elmira.
But that was a four-game loss, unlike the previous match between the two, which only lasted three.
Coach Alicia Meier said the 13-25, 13-25, 25-21, 12-25 scores told the story.
“I was really glad we won that third game,” she said.
“The girls played tough and did some good things.”
After bowing to the Falcons’ withering hitting attack and serving in the first two games, the Huskies stiffened to win Game Three and then raced out to 12 points in the fourth.
That was when Elmira, the No. 2 finisher in the league, woke up and took over.
“They had a really good jump server with top spin, who got the ball at 18 points and finished out the game,” Meier said.
“This season, we have had moments of greatness and have had some games that were great. For the most part, we just had moments in games. I know it comes with confidence and experience and those are things we’re working on in the program.
“Sometimes you are given things, and we were not given height. It would have been nice to be able to block. Hopefully, we can get some girls who have height or who can jump, and give us a block.”
The team will finish the season officially with its awards banquet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, in the cafeteria.
