Zach Gill signed a letter of intent Thursday, May 16, to play football at Siskiyou College, flanked by football and wrestling coaches and his parents, Glenn and Shalene Gill.
Gill said Siskiyou, in Weed, Calif., proved to be affordable and “they have what I want to study” – an associate’s program in criminal justice.
He said he also received interest from other schools, including one that was interested in him as a wrestler. Gill twice placed third as a heavyweight in the Oregon 4A state championships.
“I wanted to play football,” he said. “I went down there an checked it out. The coach gave me a tour of the campus. all that good stuff.”
He said he is looking forward to “new people, a different atmosphere, new coaches –just the fact of getting away and seeing what I can do.” He said Siskiyou coaches have indicated he will probabably play guard or center.
