The Sweet Home High School boys varsity basketball team lost 73-64 on the road to La Pine Friday night.
“What it was, was a four-point second quarter,” said Coach Tim Porter. After an 18-18 first quarter, the Huskies went cold. They shot just 2-14 in the second quarter.
“We had good looks,” Porter said. “It was just one of those quarters.”
La Pine scored 14 in the second quarter. After the Huskies started stalling the clock, it was still only a nine-point game at the end.
The Huskies trailed 32-22 at halftime and 46-37 after the third quarter.
With about 3:30 left on the clock, they were within four.
“It was a timeout,” Porter said. “We talked about needing a stop. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the stop.”
La Pine ended up shooting 10-14 from the foul line in the fourth as the Huskies started fouling to stop the clock. Ten of La Pine’s last 14 points came from free throws.
“I think we did a pretty good job really,” Porter said. A lot of times, a bad quarter makes a team play outside itself trying to get everything back all at once. The Huskies played “inside themselves” and whittled the lead down, but “unfortunately, we didn’t get that one last stop.”

“They’re good,” Porter said. “We were ugly. That wasn’t the same team Tuesday (as Friday, losing by one point against Cottage Grove). We did not play well. We didn’t play well defensively. We gave up too many interior baskets.”
