Sweet Home’s swimmers finished with three individual wins and two relay victories Saturday at the Albany Sprint Invitational held at South Albany High School, where the district meet will be held Feb. 8-9.
“This was a non-scoring meet that gave our kids one last chance to be in the district meet pool before the actual championships,” Coach Doug Peargin said. “We swam real well overall as a team, with quite a few personal best times.”
Victor Stupin won the 500 Freestyle in 5:44.7 for the boys, while Naomi Gunselman won the 100 Individual Medley (1:06.1) and freshman Makayla Nelson the 500 Freestyle (5:23.3) for the girls. The girls also won the 200 Medley Relay (2:04.7) and the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:51.5).
Nelson’s time in the 500 Freestyle is the second-fastest in school history.
Freshman Grant Jones wasn’t the winner, but he turned in a one-minute PR in the 500 Freestyle.
“That’s one heck of an improvement,” Peargin noted.
Sweet Home will host Sisters and Stayton at home Thursday, Jan. 24, at 4 p.m.
“This should be a real good test for all three teams,” Peargin said.
