Huskies run out of gas against aggressive Molalla hus

The Huskies opened a close game against Molalla at home on Jan. 9 in girls basketball, but Molalla caught a run near the end of the first quarter and opened a lead the Huskies couldn’t overcome.

The Huskies and Indians both scored a dozen points back and forth early in the first quarter, but Molalla developed a 23-15 edge by the end of the period and a 37-23 lead by halftime. The Indians led 52-29 after three quarters.

“I felt we had a lot of energy,” said Coach Kerstin Brosterhous. “It was a good start. I had a good feeling about it.”

The energy kind of died off by the second half, she said. “We didn’t do so well with a couple of their players.”

Katie Hagler and Maddi Skillings combined for 41 points for Molalla.

Brosterhous is stressing defense right now, she said. “I’m trying to get them to work to take ownership of their own defense, trying to get that fight, to say, no!”
