Spikers fall at Sisters, Seaside tournament

Sweet Home’s volleyball team had a flat night at Sisters Thursday, Oct. 11, coming away on the losing end of a 25-9, 25-12, 25-15 score.

That was the beginning of a “rough” weekend, Coach Alicia Meier said, as the Huskies traveled to Seaside for a tournament there, losing in pool play to 3A Warrenton and to Tillamook, and suffering a “close” loss to Stayton. In the consolation round, Sweet Home lost to eventual champion Philomath 25-10, 25-12.

“I thnk that motivated them based on practice today,” Meier said Monday.

The Huskies are hosting Junction City on Tuesday of this week in their last home match, Senior Night, and then will travel to Cottage Grove where the match will be a Pink Out, the proceeds of which will go to cancer research.

Then, Tuesday, Oct. 23, they will play at Elmira in their final regular season match.

Meier said her team, at 3-4, has the ability to play the spoiler with Cottage Grove only a game ahead at 4-3.

“We could be potentially tied with Cottage Grove if we can beat Junction City and Cottage Grove,” she said. “If we could beat Elmira, we could place in the top three.”

Though Elmira is ranked third in the state, the Huskies lost two weeks ago by a relatively close score – 25-20, 25-23 and 25-22 and Meier said the Falcons don’t always seem to play particularly well at home.
