Girls lose close on against CG

Cottage Grove 57,

Sweet Home 49

The Huskies had opportunities to get a win against Cottage Grove in girls basketball on Jan. 17 at home, but they couldn’t close the gap and lost 57-49.

“Cottage Grove was a fantastic game,” said Coach Robby Robertson. “We cut it to four with two minutes to play.”

That’s the range where the Huskies need to be offensively all the time, he said. “We had an opportunity. Our effort was outstanding – (contrasted to other games), when you get discouraged it’s hard to get your effort up.”

Cottage Grove led 13-8 after a quarter and 31-20 at halftime. Cottage Grove led 46-34 after three quarters.

Elmira 75, Sweet Home 30

The Huskies lost 75-30 at Elmira Monday night.

“We started fantastic,” Robertson said. “We were ahead 9-8 at the end of the first quarter.”

The girls were hustling pretty well but old issues came up, and they gave up 50 points in a hurry, Robertson said.

They had a huge dance Saturday night, and they were probably worn out from it, Robertson said. But the first quarter ended up being one of their best in a long time.

They were ahead 9-4 at one point, then they stopped playing defense.

Elmira went ahead 32-18 at halftime and 60-22 by the end of the third quarter.
