Sweet Home relay teams finished first in seven races and second in five more out of 16 events at the Philomath Relays Thursday, Dec. 8.
The meet is held in a non-scoring format that, Coach Doug Peargin said, offers a chance for beginning swimmers to swim in actual events that coaches might have to hold them out of in favor of others who have scoring potential.
“We were a little short-handed, but we swam pretty well,” he said. “We went into the meet a little sick and left a couple of kids home.”
The Huskies will host their Sweet Home Invitational at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15.
“This will be a pretty good test of how strong our district will be,” Peargin said. “We have some of the stronger teams in our district coming to it. In last year’s state meet Junction City, Philomath, Sisters, Stayton and Central all had people in the finals and each of these teams will be here to compete.
“Hopefully, we’ll be healthy by then and can give them a go.”
