Sweet Home posts 12-10 summer baseball record

The Huskies summer baseball team defeated North Marion 2-1 on June 25 and then split a doubleheader at Corvallis the next day and a doubleheader against North Marion on Saturday.

Against Corvallis, the Huskies lost the first game by one run in extra innings, Coach Dan Tow said. In the second, the game stopped near midnight after six innings, and the Huskies received credit for a 12-10 win.

North Marion won a decisive victory 10-3 in the first game of that doubleheader, but the Huskies pulled another close one, 9-8, in the nightcap to finish Saturday.

The Huskies hold a 10-7 summer league record, Tow said. “They’ve been playing hard. We’ve been scoring a lot of runs.”

Tanner Erickson pitched an outstanding duel against North Marion’s pitcher, Tow said. Generally, defense and offense have both been good, but pitching has been up and down with three or four boys pitching in any given game.

That’s somewhat typical of summer seasons, where players aren’t working out all the time, Tow said, but the team is getting good experience.

“We’ve had a lot of guys that have been consistent about being there.

“I’m pleased. We’ve played pretty good competition, mostly 4A and 5A schools.”

The Huskies play Wednesday night this week and then finish with a tournament next week at North Marion.
