Baseball team loses two in league play

Philomath 10, Sweet Home 3

Giving up eight runs in the fourth inning, the Huskies baseball team lost 10-3 at Philomath on April 13.

“We had one terrible inning, and that cost us the game,” Coach Dan Tow said. “Kyle (Pettit) really pitched pretty well, but we had several errors, gave up four of their six hits and had a walk and a hit batter all in one inning.

“We need to be able to buckle down in those tough situations and bend but not break. We fell apart and that was basically the story.”

Winning pitcher was Steeves.

At bats, Tyler Horner went 1-2. Adam Hummer went 1-3 for a solo homerun. Chaz David and Brad Valloni each went 1-3.

Central 4, Sweet Home 3

The Huskies lost a closer 4-3 game hosting Central on March 10.

“This was a well-played game defensively by both teams,” Tow said. “Other than a rough start, we played well. We had a lot of base runners but didn’t get our job done with people in scoring position.

“We lost out on some great opportunities to drive in runs, and I thought that cost us the game.”

Central led 3-1 after one inning. The Huskies scored again in the third and seventh. Central scored its final run in the fourth.

Hummer started on the mound for the Huskies. Pettit pitched in relief. Waterman was the winning pitcher. He was relieved by Pratt.

At bats, Davis went 3-4. Pettit went 1-1 with a double and RBI. Adam Matuszak went 1-3 with a double. Skyler Bascom went 1-3 with an RBI.

For Central, Hamilton hit a double and earned two RBIs in the first inning.
