Nick Rodgers named to boys soccer MVP honor

Senior Nick Rodgers was named Most Valuable Player on the boys varsity soccer team during the team’s annual awards dessert held on Nov. 17.

Coach Eric Stutzer described him as “Mr. Everything.”

Sophomore Rawlins Lupoli received the Coach’s Award.

“Mainly because of his effort,” Stutzer explained. Lupoli broke his leg in the third game of the year. “When we lost him, we started losing games.”

He was at every practice and game anyway, and he played in the final game of the season, Stutzer said.

Sophomore Ramon Fry won the Mr. Husky award, the equivalent of the Hustle Award. He scored four goals on the season.

“He was involved in every major play on offense that scored a goal,” Stutzer said, and he stays busy with soccer all year long, with a foot on the ball during the off season. Fry could be seen frequently on the soccer field during the spring and summer months, often with other players.

Quinn Dinsfriend was named Most Improved. He showed it most especially in the last two games, with five of six shots on goal against Elmira.

Kyle Thomas won the Extra Mile Award, Stutzer said. He worked through a lot of adversity off the field, and because of it, he didn’t get to play in some games. He worked hard to get back on the field.

Earning their first-year letters were Tyler Becker, Quinn Dinsfriend, Oscar Hernandez and Riku Funabashi.

Second-year letters went to Kyle Thomas, Nik Dishaw, Malachi Christman, Tristan Graham, Ramon Fry, Rowland Lupoli and Rawlins Lupoli.

Earning third-year letters were Matt Davis, Egan Shamek, Tadyn Bentley, TJ Baham and Alonso Perez.

Rodgers received his fourth letter.

In league awards, Rodgers, who scored three goals, was named to the first team.

Perez, with eight goals, and Shamek, with nine goals, were named to the second team.

Dishaw, with more than 70 saves, received honorable mention.

Stutzer was named Coach of the Year.

Receiving JV certificates were Craig Hansen, Wes Parker, Noah Webb, Daniel Batchelor, Braden Greene, Tyler Becker, Gerad Romero, Jacob Erickson, Levi Hernandez, Brad Wolthuis, Brad Hilburn, Noah Dinsfriend and Owen Zerin.

The team was 12th in Academic All Stars rankings in 4A boys soccer statewide.

On the pitch, the Huskies had their best season ever, finishing 5-9 overall and 2-8 in league, but with much closer scoring margins in those losses than in previous years.
