Jordan Miller named girls hoops MVP

Senior Jordan Miller was named most valuable player by her girls basketball team at Sweet Home High School.

She also received one of two Coach’s Awards during the team’s annual awards dessert on March 2.

Miller averaged 10.8 points per game and led the team on the boards, collecting 116 rebounds.

Brittany Brownell won the team’s Sportsmanship Award, and Ally Tow received the Hustle Award.

Miller earned her fourth letter this year.

Seniors Jessica Stockman and India Porter received their second letters. Earning their first letters were juniors Brownell and Kaitlynn Autry and freshman Tow.

Coach Steve Brown was impressed with “what these girls are made of to keep playing hard and improving,” he said.

His team won a single non-league game this year, although it was close in several games.

“It’s easy to go to practice when you’re on a winning streak,” Brown said, but it’s tough otherwise.

“I could have been any prouder of the fact they improved this year – and that’s hard to do when you’re losing.”

The other coaches attest to it, Brown said. “I think the coaches saw the heart of the girls from the first time we played them to the second time they played them.”

Brown said he has enjoyed immensely working with the girls, and he’s hoping they’ll develop into a powerhouse other teams fear to visit.

Assistant Coach Dave McNeal is working out a summer schedule to get the girls on the floor and practicing between seasons.

“They’ve got to play,” Brown said. “You’ve got to play to get better.”
