The Huskies lost a pair of games at home last week in girls basketball, 48-19 to Crook County Friday and 50-32 to North Bend on Jan. 6.
Plagued by turnovers, the Huskies quickly fell behind Crook County 11-0.
Crook County pressed the Huskies early, said Coach Steve Brown. The girls would break the press but turn the ball over afterward.
The Huskies put four on the board by the end of the quarter to trail 13-4. They trailed 19-11 at halftime and 34-15 at the end of the third quarter.
Against Crook County, the Huskies trailed 20-2 after a quarter and then began putting things together in the second, trailing 28-14 at halftime. They trailed 41-20 at the end of the third.
The team is averaging 30 turnovers per game, and shooting fell off last week.
These teams aren’t that much better than the Huskies, Brown said. Reducing turnovers and connecting more would make the games much closer if not turn the game around completely.
The girls need to become students of the game, watching basketball and practicing, Brown said. Repetition develops intuition, and they’re working on ball handling in practices regularly.
Unfortunately, the girls haven’t had much experience before high school ball, and he takes the blame for not getting a summer program together last year.
“I get frustrated for them,” Brown said, but they have a lot of heart as they play ball with few if any breaks.

“If we can get them shooting the same night, that’ll make a difference.”
